MayHem (or Not)

May had its moments. We got snow; hot, dry, windy days; cold, rainy, windy days; friends moving and needing help with some of the work on their new place (nice time!); another friend who had a major, unexpected health issue; one of my photographs accepted in a

nearby gallery show (yay! and I was able to attend the reception, too); exactly one chance for a day trip to try to find some new imagery; and ZERO camping yet. Overall, not exactly as we'd tentatively outlined it. Oh well. June's a new month.

I was very pleased to have "Gold at Daybreak" accepted into the "41st Annual Best of Colorado" show at the Depot Gallery in Littleton. (The show continues until June 28, 2026.) It's close enough that I could attend the reception. There were 476 total entries, so getting accepted was pretty cool.

I just got the even more exciting news that this same image won First Prize in the "Within One Color" show at HMVC Gallery in New York!! That show is available for viewing online from June 1 - 30, 2026, at https://hmvcgallery.com/exhibitions-group/.

Some of my work (including "Existential Questions") has been published recently in magazines geared to art curators and collectors, most notably in the "Monochrome" (#007) and "Yellow/Gold" (#008) issues of Monochromica, the inaugural issue (#001) of Photografique, and a short article about me in the online publication, Canvas Rebel,

With collectors who are looking for unique work in mind, I launched my first Limited Edition print in May. For me, it's a blast from the past in the nostalgia department, and certainly brought back lots of school memories. Growing up in a rural area with a somewhat limited school library made the monthly visit of the bookmobile a big deal. I'd grab as many books as we were allowed to take home, and would still end up reading them all well before the next visit was scheduled. One thing the bookmobile offered that I couldn't get in our little school library was research

material for assigned reports. Two reports I wrote, about Edgar Allen Poe and Thomas Nast, were saved by our bookmobile. When looking for specific research aids, we'd fill out a form to explain what we needed and the librarian at the city library would see what they had available. I've always appreciated the information that was provided about these two characters, and still remember various odd details about them. "Bookmobile" will be a limited run of 30, and it's only available as a 30x24-inch acrylic print. I'll certainly consider customizing it if asked. And I'm planning a second Limited Edition to launch in June, so stay tuned.

I want to plan a few multi-panel artworks as well, although they're a bit more complex to acheive. Can you visualize "Magnificent Montana Sunset" in three panels over a couch?

We're looking ahead to our first (and latest in several years) camping trip of the season, and I'm really hoping to find some new imagery to post soon. I have several older photos to get onto the website shortly. As always, I invite your comments and critiques. See more at my website, or message me if you have questions about anything.

Let me know what you think of the photos posted here -- do they tell you a story?
